This work was exhibited in the group show, Belanglo.

Artist Statement: Beyond headlines, news reports and innuendo, my relationship with Belanglo began as a twelve year old in scouts, traversing misty and bitterly cold fire trails with a heavy pack, sleeping bag and hordes of other khaki clad kids. Ghost tales and second hand stories were rife among the dark pines and scrappy bush. My work aims to capture the whispers of rumour and legend that swirl around a place that is otherwise both beautiful and ordinary. I combine silk, embroidery, sequins and glitter with outdoor grade fabrics and objects familiar around a rough and ready campsite. Symbols of legend and myth sit beside typical nighttime scenes from the Hume - the highway that runs past the forest. This demonstrates the facility of Belanglo to swallow anything it touches into its unsettling narrative and reflects the passing of the place as a setting for real and horrific modern tragedy into the canon of Australian folklore.
